Llyn Peninsula Walk.Criccieth & Llanstumdwy Circular
This scenic walk from Criccieth explores the western side of the Llŷn Peninsula, combining a stunning section of the Wales Coast Path with a peaceful inland route through Llanstumdwy. The walk offers coastal views, mountain backdrops, and historical landmarks, making it a fantastic way to experience this beautiful area.
Start Point

Route Directions
Start from the car park and follow the path to the right of the shelter to reach the seafront.
Turn right (keeping the sea on your left) and follow the Wales Coast Path, which runs along low cliffs with a fence to your right
Pass a house on your right, then go through a metal gate, continuing along a clear path.
After passing another house (on your left), enjoy the expansive coastal views ahead.
Coastal Section
As you pass the end of the hedge on your left, the scenery opens up, revealing stunning views of the Snowdonia mountains in the distance.
Cross a short boardwalk and walk parallel to a gravel track on your right.
Follow an easy, level path along the back of the pebble beach, leading to the Afon Dwyfor estuary (Grid Ref. SH479373).
Walk alongside the river, crossing a long boardwalk before reaching a metal kissing gate.
Enter the field and follow the fence on your left to another kissing gate with a three-way signpost (Grid Ref. SH472374).
Inland Route via Llanstumdwy
Turn right and follow the path alongside the fence before carefully crossing the railway line.
Continue along the track to Aberkin Farm, passing through the farm buildings onto the access drive.
Reach the A497 main road, cross carefully, and take the footpath opposite, which leads into a track lined with houses.
Arrive in the village of Llanstumdwy, once home to David Lloyd George. The Lloyd George Museum is worth a visit.
Return to Criccieth
Turn left at the road, then almost immediately right, following the brown sign to Lloyd George’s Grave.
Pass his grave on your left, then continue straight along a quiet country lane for about 2 km.
As you pass a fishery on your left, continue for another 800 metres until you reach a 30 mph sign with houses ahead.
Turn right, following Cycle Route 8, and walk along the lane to meet the A497 again.
Cross the road carefully and turn left, taking the first right onto Lôn Fêl (brown sign to the castle).
Cross a small stone bridge and follow the road back to the start point.
